Description
The Southern White Rhinoceros is currently listed on the IUCN Red List in near threatened status. This species was at the brink of extinction at the end of the 19th century due to poaching. They are illegally hunted for their horns due to a myth that they have medicinal value. Thanks to succesful conservation initiatives, their population has increased to over 17,000 in the wild.
