The African Wild Dog (aka Painted Wolf) is currently listed on the IUCN Red List in endangered status. There are only approximately 1400 mature individuals remaining that are capable of reeproduction.

The main causes of their decline are associated with human encroachment on their habitat including conflict with local livestock and farmers and accidental deaths in road accidents.
